For those of you who may not have been following along - and it has been a while since I've talked about my dental odyssey - earlier this year it was determined that I need braces. This is to do some fine adjusting of my upper teeth, preparatory to having a bone graft and implants done. The bone graft's to fill in the front upper jawbone that never developed, so as to stabilize the existing front two teeth and provide something to anchor two false teeth to replace a pair that were pulled when I was a teenager.
I've put off starting the braces for about six months now, mainly with the idea that I'd be saving up cash to make the downpayment, but that hasn't worked out. So I just went ahead and made the appointment. Last week they took x-rays, photos, and molds of my teeth. Tomorrow I believe they put on the braces - I have an appointment tomorrow that's supposed to be about 1.5 hours, so presumably they're putting in braces. I have another appointment next week that's supposed to be an hour, as well, so that's why I'm not quite sure what they're doing tomorrow.
I'm not looking forward to this. I wouldn't say I'm dreading it - I've done braces before, I know what's involved, and in any case supposedly this time won't be as involved as last time. And I know it's necessary, and I do want to finally take care of this long-outstanding business. Still, it's just a pain - literally and figuratively - and an expensive one at that. Bah.
