I'm sure it's fairly obvious the topic I keep dancing around is talking about being lonely specifically for female companionship, i.e. I'd really like to date someone. For once.
Earlier today I had brunch with my friends Tony and Pam (not to be confused with Orkboi (TonyD) and his wife Orkgrrrl), and we were discussing that topic. I forget exactly why, but Tony brought up a girl he once dated whose first reaction on seeing Tony's apartment was to ask, "are you a stud??" Apparently, she thought that his apartment had the air of a man-about-town, and was concerned about what kind of guy he was. So I proceeded to tell them the story about how I've been trying to buy new underwear, but can't find any regular white briefs that fit, and it seems that maybe my best bet is to get the mid-rise briefs, but they only seem to come in colors, not white. Naturally Tony and Pam said, "So get colors! You should get the colored ones!" and my response was, "but colors are for studs!"
I like that story about pants better. :)
Last night (= Saturday night) I went to my friend Donna's birthday party. I haven't really talked to her much in quite a while; I knew from her LiveJournal though (which I'd link to if I knew the code offhand but I don't feel like looking it up) that she's been seeing someone for a few months. What I found out though was that they met through Orkut (the Google side project that's like Friendster, but better). I told her she's my new hero - now I know it can work!
So when I logged on to Orkut this evening, I noticed the "daily fortune" they put on your home page said "your luck has completely changed today". I posted a scoffing remark about that in the relevant thread in my Delphi forum, saying that could just as easily mean all my friends will desert me as it could mean attractive women will suddenly be contacting me (among many other possibilities for good and bad luck).
About an hour later, I got an email from Salon Personals - someone had sent me a "wink", which is a non-message just to let someone know you're interested (presumably it costs more credits to send an actual message). This of course is the first time anyone's contacted me in any way through Salon. How's that for a weird convergence?
And yes, I did send her a message back. We'll see if anything comes of it.
Also: where did all these hotties come from on Friendster? There's a whole bunch I've never seen before.
