I-5 southward

This is a relatively unremarkable photo of Mount Rainier as seen from an I-5 overpass. What makes it remarkable is that a year ago, this photo was not possible—at least not quite yet possible for the general public. I took it on July 19, 2009, from the newly-opened Link Light Rail system here in Seattle, as the train crossed over I-5 on its own dedicated bridge. If you look carefully at the sky just above the horizon, you can make out lighter areas where the camera caught the reflection of the window I was looking through.

Besides this opening weekend trip just to check out the train, I've only used it twice myself, going to and from the airport last December for my Christmas trip back East. Otherwise, it doesn't really go anywhere that I'm ever headed, and it's not close enough to me to make using it worthwhile. However, I still think it's fantastic that Seattle finally has a light rail line—I'm still boggled that it took so long just to get this one built, frankly—and I wish it could be expanded more rapidly.
