I'm working some more on the sha'ir class for Dungeon World, but I'm not going to have something ready to post before midnight, so it's a filler post for now.
As I mentioned in the previous couple of posts, I had an editing project for work this weekend, a paper on the long side at 40 pages along with a two-page handout. That took long enough that, combined with a little work I had early in the week, I met my goal of spending at least 20 hours on work for the week. So that's good. The issues of course are that work still comes in erratically and I need some reliable expectation of having at least that much work each week; and that even though I did end up working 20 hours for the week, I wouldn't have actually spent 20 hours on work if that paper hadn't dropped on me, so I still need to be more reliable about devoting time and effort to work. So, no beating myself up about it, just a reminder that I need to stay focused and to take care of business.
Also another reminder to myself: the work I do is difficult! I've talked and written before about how I feel editing tends to get overlooked because people can speak the language fluently and forget that written communication requires more effort to be clear and effective. But then even I tend to forget that yes, it can be challenging and certainly time-consuming to ensure the writing is clear and effective and correct. Even if the corrections I'm making in a document are just simple matters of capitalization or word choice or formatting or punctuation, it takes a long time to ensure it's correct in every instance, not to overlook anything, and to get the nuances right or figure out the subtleties of overlapping style guidelines.
When I work, I do very good work. I just need to do better about getting work to do.
